Office Building Conversion

LOCATION: New York, NY
PROJECT TYPE: Confidential
BUILD TYPE: Adaptive Reuse
PROJECT SIZE: Confidential

A private university with locations in Manhattan and Brooklyn has several projects underway. UPC works with the university’s facilities department to manage renovations throughout their various buildings. Almost all of the projects are in existing buildings, often Landmarked, originally designed for other uses and requiring modernization and adaptation for new program requirements.

For this project, the university is renovating two adjoining historic buildings to include  research and educational facilities, a conference center, collaborative workspaces, a fitness center, on-site bike storage, new office space, and communal kitchen facilities. To accomplish the university’s programmatic goals, this project requires a complete gut renovation, and all work requires LPC approval.

UPC was engaged during construction to assess and realign project team, restructure project governance, implement new organizational standards and meeting schedule, push for project completion, and attain complicated regulatory approvals and sign-offs. All work is done in coordination with the university’s internal support staff.
